When I was taking Metformin I lost about 16lbs, and it helped to regulate my periods. (I had very long cycles) When I started taking it they started me at 500mg per day and gradually increased it by a 5oomg/day after one week and then again after two weeks so that I was taken 1500mg per day. They cautioned me that some people experience abdominal cramping and some people get diarrhea with it until there bodies adjust. I didn't have any problems with that though.
