Has anyone had an IUD? does <br /> it hurt? and does it have any <br /!

Question:

Has anyone had an IUD? does
it hurt? and does it have any
terrible side affects?

I need advice on if I should get one or not. Birth control is too expensive and an IUD would only cost me my $20 office visit co-pay.

Answers:

I am extremely happy with my Mirena IUD. I will admit it did hurt during insertion (I teared up a little bit) it was like heavy cramping for about 5-10 minutes. Rest assured though, I am sure it hurts a lot less than child birth or an abortion. After the first day there was no more pain except for the occasional cramp during the next 3 months. Since then I have not had a problem. The side effects vary based on the type you get and are similar to those of other forms of birth control (generally speaking).
Do as much research as possible, it is your body and your choice.
Oh the best part is how much lighter and shorter my periods have become. I was a heavy 7 dayer, now I am down to 3 and could get away with just a panty liner on all 3 days if need be.
