Because doctors have no way of knowing when exactly you ovulated or conceived, they estimate that you'll give birth 40 weeks after your last period. This is only an estimate, of course. Some women can have healthy full-term babies at 36 weeks, others don't give birth until 42 weeks, the majority of women have theirs somewhere in between.
