Has anyone had lap band surgery or knows anything about it?

my girlfriend wants it done.

I got it done a year ago. Its changed my life forever. I was 214LBS, size 22 pants now i'm 135LBS with a size 8 pants. I still have 10LBS to go. It's by all means not a easy way out. It involves giving up what obese people love the most: Pop, pasta, bread, beer, pizza and some meats. This is the stuff I can't eat anyway. Other people are lucky and can eat it, some are very unlucky and have trouble eating alot of stuff. What happens is it gets "stuck", were it feels like you have a ball stuck in your throat. You have to just wait it out and be strong till it passes. You have to eat slower, not drink with meals and eat much smaller portions. Americans eat about 3-4 servings per meal and don't even realize it. You will be eating barely a serving. The lapband is adjustable and reversable. If you decide it doesn't work for you or you want to become fat again. Take it out. There is a rubber thing that attatches to the muscle under your skin below the ribcage called "the port". You can go in and get fills to tighen or loosen the band if you are not loosing weight or if your having too much trouble eating. Most people loose 1-2LBS a week. When you start getting close to your goal weight, thats when progress slows down. I haven't excersised the whole time i've had it. Change in eating habbits has done it for me. To loose weight faster or to get more toned, then you will want to excersise. Its a huge life change, but I wouldn't go back ever. I feel alot healthier, I look better and I have more self confidence. If you have tried diets, tried excersise, did this and that... and failed, then yes its a good option. Often when you get to be too large then thats the reason why lots of us obese folks can't do diet/excersise plans. Diets do not work in my opinion. Because you will only gain the weight back.
