Can I start taking the pill a week after my period? How effective would it be?!

Question:

Can I start taking the pill a week after my period? How effective would it be?

If I start a new packet of the pill one week after my period (instead of during my period when it is recommeded) will it still protect me?

Answers:

You will need wait until you have had seven days of active pill in a row before you are mostly protected. Use an extra form of contraception until you start a new packet of pills to be extra certain (you may have ovulated this month already).
