I got the birth control shot in May.?!

Question:

I got the birth control shot in May.?

I know that irregular periods are normal, but mine lasted the entire month of June, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

have any of you gotten the shot? how long did your periods last?? will I be ok by August, (I'm getting married August 3rd)

Answers:

I've been on Depo for about 3 years. The first 9 months or so were, to be quite blunt, hell. I spotted for nearly the entire time, and my moods felt completely out of control. But I stuck it out, and my body adjusted - I felt more in control of my emotions and my period stopped altogether. I'd say I "spot" maybe once or twice a year now.

I would say that it's hard to tell whether or not you'll be "ok" by August. Each woman reacts differently to birth control - for me it was several months, for other women it was much less...unfortunately the shot is a long-term option and can't be "stopped" like you could the pill or the ring. If you start to have severe problems, call you doc to talk about your options. The shot is definitely not for everyone, but personally, I've come to enjoy it very much.
