im a mum of 2 and have been told i have postnatal depression. with out having to go through the whole sorry story, but how long will i have to be on this? ive tried not taking it but the effects are unbearable and i love my kids. its hard to explain if im not on them im fine happy nothing can put me down. with out im a wreck. this is new to me so please be nice :)

when i take it i feel guilty?
i clean part time for the elderly and we have our chats, and one women said in a general conversation that people who are on prozac are only hiding themselves and i just nodded and agreed?!!

its not the effect of the drug its the principel i feel guilty for feelinh=g better taking it? its so hard to explain but ive always been a stronge women who can sort anything put herself, havent needed the effects of drugs to cope

It's "normal" and healthy to be on an anti-depressant if you're depressed.
Please, do NOT stop taking your medication on your own!! That's extremely dangerous in several ways.
There are several anti-depressants available besides Prozac, some with few or no side effects. Your family doctor will likely not be aware of any of them except the ones that his friendly drug-pusher (sales rep) carries. If you're unhappy with the effects of the Prozac, ask for a referral to a licensed psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are M.D.'s who are specially trained to know what effect different drugs have on your mood
