Mirena & others like it? vs the pill?

When on the pill I plateau weight wise, have little sex drive, and am a b***h a lot of the time (yes I'll even admit it). Not on the pill I'm a whole other person with a very high sex drive. I'm looking for a different BC method and was wanting feedback on Mirena or similar IUD's, etc? I'm happily married so there's no STD risk or anything like that and we both hate condoms. If we want another child it won't be for at least 2yrs or more. Anyone recommend a certain method and not have side effects like I did with the pill?? Thanks much =}

Thank you for the info. I've looked into that as well as some other options. I like the idea of NFP but I don't know how much my husband will go for the idea. I got pregnant both times the 1st month of trying and as a surrogate the 1st IVF with twins so I'm a little on the fertile side. have you looked into NFP? it doesn't mean "not for protestants" and it's NOT the rythym method for Catholics only. Natural Family Planning--It's a safe method to determine when you are fertile to avoid or achieve a pregnancy. It's easy to learn, cheap, works with your body, it strengthens your bond as a married couple, plus it doesn't interact with any medications.

DH & I have been using it to avoid a pregnancy for 10 yrs. due to the multiple health problems I have (Crohns disease as one of them) and we haven't had any problems with it.

It does require committment and communication from both parties but isn't that what marriage is all about? you will have so much to gain and nothing to lose whereas with the pill, you run the risk of break through bleeding/ovulation, pregnancy, mood swings, blood clots, drug interations, weight gain, PE.

Natural Family Planning is condom free, so when the mood strikes, you don't have to interupt it.... :)

We learned about it via a local hospital & were trained by an NFP instructor on charting my fertility. I provided some sites that you can use to locate an instructor near you.

I am finding that people from all walks of life/different religions are using it because they hate the side effects that you mentioned & they want something that is 100% safe & effective w/o worrying about other problems like the pill can carry.
