After the menstrual period, how long is it safe to have unprotected sex?!

Question:

After the menstrual period, how long is it safe to have unprotected sex?

I just had a baby and don't want to use any birth control for now. How do I calculate when is it safe to have unprotected sex?

Answers:

You are most fertile 14 days after the start of your period and sperm can live for up to 4 days after sex, so you definitely don't want to have sex around 2 weeks after the start of your period give and take 4 days before and after. For example, if you started on January 1st, then you are most fertile Jan 15th, you wouldn't want to have sex Jan11-Jan 15 because sperm can live for 4 days, and you wouldn't want to have sex for a few days after Jan 15 just in case your cycle is late in ovulating. To be honest, it is best to have sex right before your period should begin. If you breastfeed, it stops your periods altogether usually but its never a for sure thing you won't get pregnant. It would help you be more on the safe side though. Good Luck
