Burning Calories?!

Question:

Burning Calories?

I am 5 ft 8 1/2 inches tall and weigh about 180 lbs, roughly,. I am 20 years old and female. My question is how many calories do I have to burn during exercise to maintain a steady decrease in weight? My goal weight is 160 for now and hopefully, within the next 2 years or so, I will be able to slim down to about 145 lbs.

I should also mention that I have an old spinal injury and very high impact exercise is too painful for me and causes too many problems. I tend to stick with brisk walking and swimming because they do not put as much stress on my spine. (And yes, I have consulted my doctor about various methods of exercise which are safe for me to perform).

Answers:

the only thing that will help you decrease your weight is to eat fewer calories than you can manage to burn off. So in your case, since you have the spinal injury, i'd simply advise eating lower calorie amounts frequently through the day, so that will not be hungry and "over snack" from hunger, and so that with your limited abilities when it comes to excercise you will not gain the weight.

hope that this helps you out!
