Answers:

Your diet should be light and simple. Primarily eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Do not overeat.

Omega-3 fatty acids (2-4 tsp. flaxseed oil daily) keeps prostaglandins trapped in cells, so they cannot enter muscle tissue and trigger spasms.

Avoid arachidonic acid (a type of fatty acid), which is found in meat, diary products, and palm kernel oil (a common ingredient in processed foods). Reduce salt intake. Food allergies are sometimes a cause.

Niacin helps relieve cramps. Take 25-200 mg, beginning 7-10 days before menstruation begins.

Vitamin B6 helps convert fatty acids to a form which helps produce pain-relieving chemicals.

Vitamin C helps strengthen the uterine intake of nutrients and discharge of toxins. Take 1,000-3,000 mg daily, especially when symptoms are experienced.

Studies show that by taking magnesium (1,000 mg) and Vitamin E (800-1,000 IU daily) help reduce menstrual symptoms.

Calcium is a great wonder-worker, when it comes to relaxing muscles and reducing pain. Take 1,000-5,000 mg daily.

There are also types of hydrotherapy you could try:

Place an ice pack over the abdomen.

Place a heating pad or hot-water bottle to the abdomen or back.

With the first sign of pain, place a heating pad to the back from the waist to the end of the spine. Keep the heat high.

Take a warm bath.

Take a hot sitz (sitting) bath (105-115 degrees Fahrenheit). With a hot footbath (110- 117 degrees Fahrenheit) for 3-10 minutes.

Take a cold sitz bath (55-75 degrees Fahrenheit) for 2-10 minutes while constantly rubbing the skin.

There are also herbs you could take:

Squaw vine tea with red raspberry tea was used by women from several Indian tribes to reduce menstrual pain, along with childbirth.

Other herbs include: strawberry leaf tea, yarrow tea, chinese angelica (also known as dong-qual or dang quai), red raspberry leaf tea, bilberry (contains anthocyanidins, which relax muscles), ginger (contains 6 pain-relieving compounds and 6 anti-cramping compounds), red clover (has phytoestrogens, which reduce cramping by balancing hormones better), chasteberry fruits.

A combination of ginger, valerian, black haw and motherwort is very helpful in relieving menstrual cramps. Black haw specifically relaxes the uterus.

Motherwort alone can stop menstrual cramps. Take 5 drops of motherwort extract, keep increasing it until the cramps stop; then take that amount each time cramps begin.

Other things that could also help:

Regular outdoor exercise - it's proven that people who exercise have less pain. The exercises should include ones that involve the pelvis and legs: waist-bending and leg exercises. Walk up 100 steps and back down again every day.

If your overweight it will help to lose some weight. By losing some weight it will significantly lessen painful periods.

Try to maintain regularity in times for rising, sleeping, eating, and exercise.

Improve your posture, women who do abdominal breathing, experience less problems.

Every once in awhile take rest periods with your feet elevated. It will bring healing blood to the abdominal area.

*All of these are very good natural remedies to try and relieve menstrual cramps. If you have painful menstruations I also know some good natural remedies to help and fix that problem.

~Good Luck!
