Prison/Jail Question.?!

Question:

Prison/Jail Question.?

If you are a woman and are in jail, do they supply you with maxi pads or tampons, or is this something you need to buy with commissary money?

If they do supply them to you do you only have the option of using Maxi pads?

And how do they ration them out, only a few a day? As needed?

Do you have to visit the nurse to obtain them?

My husband and I were thinking about this an decided it was worth the 5 points. If you could answer them all it would be great. Thanks!

You must buy all your personal care articles {including pads/tampons} using your own commissary money. A female friend of mine was imprisoned for a few months recently, and she told me that she could buy up to two medium (18-20 pads) packs every other week; they were regular pads, not ultra thins. Once you buy them, they are yours to keep and use at your discretion; you don't have to visit anybody to obtain them. Tampons weren't available for sale at her jail's commissary; I don't know if they are at other correctional facilities. You didn't ask about this topic, but in most female correctionals, shavers aren't available for sale; you must buy depilatory lotion from the commissary if you don't want to go around with fuzzy legs or armpits. Of course, in prison almost everything can be obtained in the "black market", for a price. My friend managed to buy a disposable razor from a correctional guard; the cost for that single-blade disposable Bic razor: ten dollars.

A note to Tinkerbelle and PinkCali Princess up there: NEVER SAY NEVER. Maybe you both think you are too good to ever land in jail, but I wouldn't be surprised if you snort a couple of lines or smoke pot now and then. A long time ago I myself thought I was too good, said it out loud to the winds. And one day I found myself in a deep hole, worse than any prison: a homeless heroin junkie who had sex for money for my 20-plus fixes each and every day. Now I'm a recovered addict, got a Master's Degree in Nursing Sciences and have been clean for four years.
