Why am i getting cramps with birth control?!

Why am i getting cramps with birth control?

ive been on birth control almost a month and ive been getting cramps for the past two weeks, you know the feeling that your period is about to come but i havent started the inactive pills yet. im confused i thought the pills were supposed to lessen cramps. please help

If this is the first cycle you have had since starting the birth control pill (and if you have never taken them before) this is probably normal for you.

Hormones are being effected and you may have either a lighter or heavier period this time or possibly NO period this cycle. You have to remember hormones are strange. Birth control pills are often times used to control irregular periods because of the hormones in them.

You may not have had problems with your periods in the past, but MAY have problems for the first couple of months that you are on them because of the hormone level. If, after one or two cycles, you continue to have cramping that is more severe than you had before starting the birth contol pill, you may have to have the dosage changed.

Give yourself at least two complete cycles ... from ovulation to flow ... before you change, but, if you are uncomfortable, talk to the prescribing physician/nurse practitioner.
