Answers:

If you feel that you need it...which you probably do since it ended up being prescribed to you...then you should give it a try. If you are suffering with depression that will not go away, the relief it may give you is priceless. I've been on many meds (I'm bipolar) - I have to be, there is no way I can live a relatively normal life without them - and they aren't really all that scary. Zoloft was helpful for me, the worst part (and what made me go off it and try something different) were the sexual side effects. This is common, but does not happen to everyone. Some people have no side effects at all, others have mild ones that go away in a couple of weeks, others just do not react well at all. The worst that happens is you don't react well to it - you get unpleasant side effects or it makes you feel worse instead of better - in which case, you can go off of it (you would want to have you doctor wean you off slowly if you had been on it a while, but let's say you took it for a week and couldn't stand it..I think he or she would just have you stop taking it.) I have had to go off of more meds than I've been able to stay on and it is frustrating trying to find the right ones, but it is SO SO worth it when the work.
Good luck.
