So, condoms are 98% effective, right?!
Question:
So, condoms are 98% effective, right?
So that means if someone has sex 100 times, there is a 100% chance that one of those times will result in pregnancy?
Answers:
Nope. There are other "timing" issues.
The breaking (or failure) of the condom is 2/100, which is an independent event compared with getting pregnant which is about 5/28 days. So the probability of these two independent events both happening at the same time is 2/100 x 5/28 = 10/2800 = 1/280 which is about 0.35% -- less than 1/2 percent.
And if you think about this math during sex, I am sure you will never get pregnant, especially if you start by discussing the probabilities of independent events.
