Can't take the pill and I'm deathly afraid of getting pregnant again. What shoul!

Question:

Can't take the pill and I'm deathly afraid of getting pregnant again. What should I do?

I'm very fertile and my fiance has a high sex drive. I had a pretty scary pregnancy...morning sickness for 3 months solid, 2 kidney infections, a yeast infection, and to top it all off intrauterine growth restriction which almost caused me to lose my baby. Anyways don't want to get pregnant again anytime soon or ever again for that matter and I'm only 22. Any suggestions cause I can't take bc pills? Should I just get myself fixed at such a young age? I want something as effective as the pill or more so. So no suggestions saying condoms, diaphragms, etc. and the thought of an iud sounds dangerous.

Answers:

I am going to assume that when you say you can't take the pill, you mean that your body cannot handle a hormonal birth control method. If this is not what you meant, there are many other options besides a pill that you can explore in the world of hormonal contraceptives, such as the patch, the ring, the shot, the implant, and the Mirena IUD.

If you don't know what an IUD (Intra-Uterine Device) is, it is a small plastic device that is inserted into your uterus and it can stay there for up to twelve years (depending on the type). There is a hormonal IUD, Mirena, and a non-hormonal method called ParaGard. ParaGard is a copper coil of sorts and it prevents pregnancy; it is unclear exactly how this method works, but it is as effective and more consistent than hormonal birth controls.
