Post op transsexual and hormones?!

Question:

Post op transsexual and hormones?

Well this might be an eye opener so early....
I am a post op trans woman. I took feminizing hormones b4 surgery to gain additional breast development.
Now....3 years since I had the surgery...I have gained alot of weight. I take a low dose of hormones estrodial 2 mg every day. Can I stop?? I know there are certain benefits with the estrogenic substance. But the risks....My Triglycerides.......500 and my weight 300. I don't smoke but I think about clots all of the time. I want to know if it is ok to stop the hormones altogeather. Does anyone know?

Answers:

You might be able to drop to the 1mg tablets. Progestins and/or trace amounts of testosterone might be beneficial. In addition, you may want to have your thyroid checked. Anyway, please discuss this all with your doctor.

On the clot risk, you may wish to switch to patches. Ingested estrogens tend to have a higher clotting risk than patches and injections.

I would not stop the hormones altogether since you'd be putting yourself at risk for bone loss and other problems.
