Spotting between periods?

For awhile now I have noticed that between my periods I will sometimes have a little spotting-- a more rusty, lighter colored discharge that generally lasts for less than a day. Is this normal? Do I have anything to worry about?

I am not on the pill or any other birth control-- I am sexually active, but use a condom.
