Any Nurses Around? "Female" problem, can you help?!

Question:

Any Nurses Around? "Female" problem, can you help?

I think I have a yeast infection ( had white discharge few days back, then some pain down there, now some burning/pain when I urniate.) I also noticed some slight redness/swelling in lip area. I have had a UTI before, so how do I know which thing this is? A UTI or a yeast infection? My doc is not in until Monday.

Answers:

UTI doesn't give you white discharge. It makes your urinations painful/burning. But it has nothing to do with your vagina - the infection is in the bladder.
Now, if you have white discharge you most likely have an yeast. Sometimes we have yeast and UTI at the same time, because one may cause another. And yeast can also cause painful urinations (especially if you scratch down there because of yeast). So, I would start treating yeast for now with over-the-counter ointment (Miconazole) and see if you still have painful urinations. In this case, you might also need antibiotics to treat your UTI. For now, take Cystex for your painful urinations. It will fight bacteria and relieve pain (also over-the-counter).
