My mother is having hot flashes. She has been on hormone replacement therapy for many years and stopped cold?

How long will they last? It has been two months.

I am 53+. I have experienced very little hot flashes. But I get outside and work with my husband plus we have a big yard which I garden in. Hot flashes can last for years. I have heard that menopause lasts 10yrs going into it, lasts 10 yrs for menopause and then lasts10 yrs going out!
She has to get off HRT. Its not good for her. My mother-in-law stayed on it till she was in her 70's. Finally I made the suggestion that she didn't need them. She quit taking them. She got confused, went into the hospital and passed.
Get your mom off those things!
They can cause numerous side effects, breast cancer, heart attacks, stroke, dementia.
If you can get her to just walk to get some exercise she will feel much better.
Unfortunately hot flashes are different for every woman. My mom had an awful time. She took Bovine uterine lining, and swore by it! At least she didn't want to kill my dad when she took it. She got it at a health food store. I am not suggesting it, but this just tells you the crazy stuff women will do to keep from having hot flashes,
Me, when I have one, I go with the flow. Usually I don't have them if I keep my cool, but when I get mad about something, here they come.
I do swear by exercise though and eating a well balanced meal every day.
