Can you safely skip your period...?!

Question:

Can you safely skip your period...?

alright i guess i should expain why i want to do this first...my husband has been gone a deployment for 6 months now, he missed majority of my pregnancy and the birth of our daughter and he'll be home on august 12th...according to my birth control that i just started i should be getting my period on the 13 of august so that's going to make for a pitiful homecoming haha..so i was wondering if i could safely skip my period with my pills..ive never done it before so i really dont know how since i've never taken birth control before..i know there are experts against this and most books will say no but i was wondering if anyone has done it and if so how and will it mess up my future periods from coming as scheduled? just wanted to know others experiences with it.

Answers:

If you are on a monophasic pill (where all the active pills are the same) then it is as simple as starting a new packet of active pills instead of taking the hormone-free sugar pills. You will basically have another three weeks with not period and have your next period when you get to the hormone-free suagr pills of the next packet.

I do this for three packets in a row so I only get a period once every 10 weeks. It's perfectly safe.

You can also do it with tri-phasic pills, but there is more chance of spotting or breakthrough bleeding.
