Your friend is suggesting that inserting your finger into your vagina will help to loosen the hymen and/or partially tear it before intercourse. This may or may not work. And as an FYI, many girls today have their hymens torn by extreme physical activity, a sharp fall to their backside, or tampon usage, so hymen discomfort during sex may or may not occur.

Frankly, if you're interested in doing this in order to become more sexually experienced, sticking your fingers into your vagina won't typically help you reach sexual orgasm. Try masturbation and stimulation of your clitoris.
