LADIES - Burn more calories during menstrual cycle?

A friend of mine said she works out overtime during her 'special time' because women burn more calories during then. I can't find anything that says whether or not that's true, but it sounds like it could be plausible, as the body heats up and works, but at the same time like a wives tale. What do you think?

Wives tale..... But....

Burning calories is a function of the level of exercise and the person's body weight. If you work out and burn 3500 calories, you will lose the same amount of weight no matter period or none.

The "But" is twofold: 1) Any exercise is good for the body at any time of the month; and 2) exercising muscles during one's period *might* help reduce any cramping, since the body's muscles are being tensed and relaxed. It's kind of the same as how an orgasm during one's period might also help relieve cramps, the blood that gets congested moves around while exercising and you just feel better.

The above assumes, of course that there are no medical issues involved with the woman.
