Question:

I just tried to insert a tampon today for the first time and I got it in but then pulled it out because it?

felt weird and I had to try it a few times. I don't know if I popped some or of all of my hymen, I have read that it can and cannot be popped using a tampon, but it is this feeling in one spot in my abdomen that almost hurts or feels a little tender. Did part of my hymen rip? What is this? I know it is not cramps.

Answers:

Your abdomen is probably just feeling tender right now because of your period. Even if you ripped your hymen you would not be feeling it in your abdomen.
The hymen is part of the external genitalia. It is a thin membrane that surrounds or partially covers the vaginal opening. It is possible that tampon use (or sports, a fall etc) can stretch or tear the hymen but most women don't notice. Part of the hymen usually remains until a women has give birth vaginally.
Just relax next time you're trying to insert a tampon. Make sure you are inserting it high enough. If using an applicator hold onto the very bottom of it and insert it until your fingers touch. If inserted high enough you will not be able to feel it.
Don't worry, it takes most girls at least a few tries to get it right.
