When can i start taking my new pill?!

Question:

When can i start taking my new pill?

Ive been on the pill for years but got some different ones today as the other ones made my skin itch. Im already 1 week in of taking the pill from my old ones. Can i just switch over and take the next 2 weeks from my new ones so that i have taken 21 days worth of pills and then have my 7 day gap and then start taking the next pack of my new ones?

Answers:

i wouldn't just switch. The best way is to wait until after your next period like you do when you first start the pills. A lot of birth control pills contain different kinds of hormones and you dont want to risk throwing your system off balance. My advice is stop taking the ones you are currently on if they are causing you problems. You will have to rely on another type of birth control method until then. In fact, you will hate this, but for the first month of taking the new ones also use other birth control methods, condoms, etc. After you complete the first month of the new pills, you shoul,d be fine. So, lets review:

1. stop taking the old ones and use alternate forms of birth control (or abstinance...that's the best)

2. wait until after your next period to start the new ones (or however the directions tell you...some brands are different than others)

3. For the first month of your new pills, also use alternate form of birth control.

I hope this helps, and good luck
