Im on my period, possible abortion? (im on the shot)...ahh please give me some insight.?

I got the birth control shot about 2 1/2 months ago and everything has been going well. I've had a few friends who had been on it, some still had their period, some spotted and some never had traces at all. So lets say about last Thursday I started to spot a little, didn't think anything of it really.

Well on Saturday I had a few stomach cramps, nothing that I wasn't use to or anything and I noticed I had a bit heavier than spotting as well. As I was at my friends house that night watching a movie my cramps started to become more painful. The pain got so bad that I started to cry ( and I'm usually pretty well with pain) I didn't want to move off the floor I was in so much pain. I took some aspirin and the pain went away a little so I decided to go home before it started again.

Once I got home i was feeling a lot better, I grabbed my heating pad and headed to lay down. But then I felt something odd, if your a girl you know that sometimes you can feel when a little extra blood comes out. Well it was sort of like that, but I could tell that it wasn't normal.

So I went to the bathroom to check and on top of my pad was a weird thing..this is hard to describe. Whatever came out, of course I had to touch it because I wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing things. It had rolled up and unrolled it was a little smaller than my palm, It was about 2-3cm thick, and It wasn't blood. It was like a skin color smooth on one side, rough on the other.

Needless to say I was a bit shocked, Ive had sex since being on the shot. Thoes who are not familiar with it, it takes effect after 1 week. My partner and I have used condoms although one of them did break about 4-5 weeks ago or so. But I didn't worry because I had the shot to back me up.

Could it have been some sort of abortion? Im really lost, after that night ive been spotting, but thats about it, nothing heavy at all since that happened.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This actually sounds normal to me. You've only been on the shot for 2 1/2 months - when I first started the shot, my body got all sorts of whacked out. I spotted for nearly 9 months and my emotions and moods were completely out of control. After this point my body pretty much adjusted and things got back to normal. My period eventually stopped altogether.

I imagine that this is your body's way of reacting and adjusting to the hormones. The substance you pulled from your pad was most likely uterine lining as a result of the horrific cramps you described having. I imagine that your body did not release an egg, but you body may still be mimicking the cycle of a period.

If in doubt, call your doctor to describe your experience. I'd say I spot maybe 1-2 times a year now, and every now and then I'll get crampy. But I no longer have a monthly cycle.
