Are smear tests only for if you are a sexually active person?!
Question:
Are smear tests only for if you are a sexually active person?
Apologies for the poor grammer
Answers:
If you are talking about a Pap test, where cells are removed from the cervix and stained and examined under a microscope, they are for women whether sexually active or not.
While it is true that sexually active women can experience a higher incidence of cancers (STD's HPV, etc), *any* female can get uterine cancer, and a Pap test is the easiest way to discover it, and the earlier it's discovered, the better chance of a complete recovery.
Your general practitioner doctor should be able to direct you to a good gynecologist, who can discuss your specific situation.
My half-sister was diagnosed with uterine cancer at age five <yes, five>, one of those really fluky things, but it happens. She had a hysterectomy and radiation and chemo, and went on to have a normal life <other than the fact that she would never be able to become pregnant and deliver a child of her own.
Good luck, and take care of your health!
