Ok, period question....?!

Question:

Ok, period question....?

I started way early for one! (2 weeks early, which is very rare for me! -as I stated in my last question) For two: It is very light, way lighter than usual! Also its still kinda brown in color....it is weird and I don't know what to think! Any ideas of whats up with this????????

Answers:

Disclaimer: I'm male, so take this with a large grain of salt.

1. Dark brown usually implies clotted blood, rather than a fresh blood flow.
2. You seem to be on the younger side of things (not approaching menopause), so there are plenty of opportunities for false growths to occur, resulting in spotting.
3. 50% of pregnancies result in miscarriage. Most of these occur in the first 3 months.
4. It's possible to still have a period while pregnant, especially during the first trimester.
5. Ovulation is 'modeled' to occur approximately 1-2 weeks prior to menstruation. Models are exactly that. Some women ovulate 3 days prior, some 1 week prior, some 2 weeks prior. Unless you've used a basal thermometer to track your ovulation, you don't know when you ovulate, other than being VERY sensitive to your hormonal changes (no, i don't just mean mood swings! slight changes in breast size, sleep needs, lots of possible indicators.)
6. It's possible, but not highly likely, that if you've been sexually active, you've just found evidence of a 'missed' pregnancy - failure to embed in the uterus may or may not be defined as a miscarriage, but the results would be the same - extra tissue that the body needs to excrete through the vaginal passage.
7. You may want to call your doctor, just to get a notation in your chart for future reference, that you observed this 'spotting'.

I apologize if my graphic language has offended, but there are so many variations in human fertility, and sometimes euphemisms just don't convey the information. And, I don't claim expertise, just awareness.

Keep an eye on the flow, and watch for your next period. But plan on being in touch with your doctor no later than a month from now - either by phone or appt, to track this event. It may be nothing, but it may prove important down the road, especially when you finally decide you're ready to get pregnant. It's too early to know for sure.
