How can I use birth control to change my period?!

Question:

How can I use birth control to change my period?

I asked a doctor about this, and she told me to just skip the sugar pills at the end of the pack and start a new pack. Doing this just made my period start and not stop. I am getting married in 2 weeks and would like to start my period now and skip it then. Would it work to start taking sugar pills now (I still have another week left of regular pills) and have my period early? Or will that just make it worse?

Answers:

My experience has been to skip the sugar pills and keep taking the real stuff to put off my period. If you stop taking them now you may start you period, but it may last a while. I had a friend who bled for 7 weeks straight. Also, it may make the pill ineffective when you resume. Basically, you could get pregnant on the honeymoon (unless you use additional birth control). It's a tough call b/c everyone's body is different, but my advice would be to stay on them till after the wedding. Good luck and congrats on your marriage.
