Help!! medication side effects (vomiting)?!

Question:

Help!! medication side effects (vomiting)?

I have a stomach infection and spent sunday night in the er they gave me antibiotics (metronidazole 500mg) to be taken 3x a day with food. it is listed as the generic for flagyl 500mg. I took it 3x yesterday but I also started birth control pills (loestrin 24 fe) for the first time last night. I made sure to eat every time I took a pill yesterday I ate simple things like boiled egg and mac and cheese and bread. soo
I woke up at 8am puking and have felt nasious all day since then...just a sip of water makes me feel like puking but I havent since this morning. I assumed that if the birth control pill made me sick it would have been within several hours of taking it. The side effects for birth control do list vomiting but the antibiotics list it also...My parents dont know about the birth control pill because they wouldnt allow it. I will be 18 in 3 weeks so I dont feel too guilty...The dr said it would help with ovarian cysts years ago and finally I decided to start it.

anyway, the main concern is that the antibiotics say to check with dr asap if you have vomiting as a side effect. I really dont want it to be a big deal ...I accidentally mentioned it to mom earlier I figured it was from the birth control. do I really need to panic...its just vomiting...

the main reason I dont want to call my dr is that my mom likes to sit in on all my dr visits and Im going in tomorrow anyway...for a post er check up

Answers:

Nausea and vomiting can be a sign of an allergic reaction, or at the very least a systemic intolerence of the antibiotic. Calling your doctor, and letting him or her know that you are having severe nausea is not over reacting. Hopefully, they can put you on a different antibiotic, and you won't have a bad reaction to it. It could be from the birth control pills too, but being sick to your stomach on antibiotics is very common, and usually they can find one that you don't react to as badly.
