What can I do to help lessen the mood swings and depression?!

Question:

What can I do to help lessen the mood swings and depression?

I'm on the depo shot with a few weeks left before it no longer is effective against pregnancy. The nuse practitioner said that the side effects could last for months after I stop taking it. What can I do to help with the awful mood swings and depression? it's driving me and my fiance insane!

Answers:

I've got two suggestions and I hope they help.

The first is to get some exercise everyday, something like a good long walk. Exercise helps regulate your mood and it's recommended for people who are struggling with depression.

The second is to keep in mind that the mood thing is being caused by the drug and for you to be patient with yourself and to ask your fiance to be patient, too. Your body is being put through a stress -- be kind to you.

Oh, one thing more--keep track of those moods on a calendar or in a journal. If things don't start getting better, have a talk with the nurse practitioner. Maybe there is something else that you can do. It's also possible that mood issues are a sign of a serious side effect that would be dangerous for you have.
