I spotted then got a heavy period spotted then heavy period?

i started spotting for the whole day it was brownish , then i had a full heavy period next day then i started to spot again then next day i had heavy period then started to spot once more.. now... that has never happened to me before is that normal? i m thinking to contact my physician everyone says chances is i might find out im pregnant next month..i think thats no tthe case.. is becasue i had a previous miscarriage this is happening to me? any one know similiar systems is so i needs some advice.. thank you!

How old are you? If you're 40-ish or older, it could just be hormonal changes leading to menopause. If you're young, then you may have a hormonal imbalance. I did have an extremely heavy one one month after having a light one the month before, and the doc told me (over the phone) that if I soaked a super tampon every couple of hours or less for more than a couple of days, then call her back. That is what I think they consider excessive bleeding.
