Period/tampon help?!

Question:

Period/tampon help?

I just started my period today but I am going to camp in one month. I know sometimes it's not regular for the first couple of times but sometimes it is. We might go swimming and we are definantly going to ride horses. A lot of people say you shoulden't use tampons for the first year but I want to be able to swim. What should I do? And will it be uncomfortable t use pads or tampons while riding bareback. I only ride bareback.

Answers:

You can use tampons as soon as you start your period. I started right away; I've only ever used pads at night or on light flow days.
Buy some slender/junior/teen tampons (you'll likely need different absorbencies but I wouldn't recommend anything bigger until you know what you're doing) and buy one's with a plastic applicator, they're easier to insert. Find the position most comfortable for you and insert the tampon as high as it will go. If you put it high enough you won't be able to feel it. You might want to wear a pantiliner in case of leakage at first because you won't know how heavy your flow gets. Tampons need to be changed every 4-8 hours, or more often if needed on your heavier days. Do not leave it in for longer than the recommended time. If you take a tampon out too soon, it will hurt a little because it's not saturated. Don't worry if this happens though, it doesn't harm you.
Congratulations on becoming a woman.
