Anyone had tubal implants for perminant birth control?!

Question:

Anyone had tubal implants for perminant birth control?

I heard of an Essure implant for birth control has anyone had this done?

Answers:

I had the Essure procedure done back in 12/04, at the same time as an endometrial ablation.

Essure is an outpatient procedure. I had it done under anesthesia, was asleep during it. Had some cramping for the first day of the surgery and some after that, for a couple of days. Mind you, I had an ablation done as well, so that is what caused more cramping for me.

The Essure coils are inserted into the fallopian tubes via hysteroscopy, it's not invasive surgery like a tubal ligation, no cutting is involved. The coils cause scar tissue to build up, therefore blocking the tubes... therefore, preventing pregnancy.

For the first 3 months within having the implants placed, you must use a back-up form of birth control. Then an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) is done to make sure that your tubes are definitely blocked. This causes some cramping, from mild to severe.

It's a good way of having a permanent form of birth control implemented.
