I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. what should I be eating to help me lose weig!

Question:

I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. what should I be eating to help me lose weight when exercise isn't enough?

Throughout my teenage years, I have gradually gained weight. I have tried exercising more, not drinking soda, not eating nearly as many carbs as I've used to, even drastically limiting my portions, but to no avail. Now, at 21, 5ft 0in tall, 200lbs and about to get married, I really want the weight off. Please help.

Ever since I turned 13 it seems, I have just gradually gained more and more weight. The cysts are caused by hormone imbalances, particularly too much testosterone in the bloodstream, or insulin resistance, in my case. This also makes it incredibly hard to stay at one weight or worse, losing it. I have an allergy to the only medicine (Metphormin) that can help regulate these levels. I try walking and exercising more, cutting back on carbs and eating more fiber, even drastically limiting my portions, but to no avail. Now at 21 years old, 5ft 0in tall, 200lbs and about to get married, I REALLY want the weight off...even if it's just 40lbs by next May. What exercises should I do? What should I eat? Please help, it will be appreciated.

Metphormin is the MEDICAL name for Glucophage. I'm allergic to it.

Answers:

Hiya hunni,
I too have PCOS and was trying for a baby for 2 years and was having fertility treatment and was advised to lose some weight to help my fertility.

I was advised to eat a lot of protein and try to eat as little carbohydrates as possible. Also to avoid too much fruit as they have too much natural sugar. Eat as much veg as you can.
