Question:

Miscarraige misadvice? Dr. said uterus would expell everything on its own. Is that true?

I had a miscarriage, and the dr. said that my uterus would expel everything on its own. A friend who had a miscarriage was shocked that they didn't give me a D&C or antibiotics. Now I am having lower abdominal pain that feels like gas, and it also cramps up before I urinate. I am freaking out. Should I go to the hospital again, (I don't trust them very much right now, but I am scared!) and could what I experienced the last time be considered malpractice?

Just to clarify a couple of things, and thanks to those who have already answered...
I was about 6 weeks along, so now that you mention a D&C isn't necessary for such a short pregnancy, I'm feeling a bit more relieved.
I'm not afraid of all doctors, by any means, but I was worried that I got bad advice from a doctor at this particular hospital. Now I see that I probably didn't need that procedure after all.
thanks again everyone :)

Answers:

I'm sorry about your miscarriage.

There is a very small chance that your uterus could retain some pregnancy tissue. Though chances are slim, you might want to make an appointment (if they haven't already scheduled you for one) to have an ultrasound done to make sure the miscarriage was complete and to check in with doc to make sure you're doing okay.

If it has been two or more weeks, call and make an appointment.

No need to freak out : )
