Answers:

there are many different kinds of pills, shots, UIDs. your best bet would be to get a list of the names. you can do that with a search engine. then check out askapatient.com. it's a site where people rate their meds, why they are taking them, what the side effects are, how long they've been taking them. that would be your best bet in deciding which you want to take if you will have that option.

as far as your questions go, birth control is a hormone, or combination of hormones, that keep you from passing an egg. they also change the environment inside your body to keep a fertilized egg from implanting if you do pass a fertile egg. when taken correctly, the pill is 99% effective, as are most other forms of birth control. the pill you take once a day, about the same time every day. the shot you get once every 12-13 weeks. IUD's last for up to 5 years, some more depending on the brand. there is also an implant on the market now that lasts for up to three years, I think. there are many things you need to know about these things. you can do a google search for birth control, or you can talk to your doctor. you also need to know what to do if you miss a pill, are late for a shot, lose the string on a IUD. you really need to do your homework on this.

tell you what. you can email me with any questions, and I can give you the answers or direct you to where to get the best answers at. I had to change my birth control recently, and did an honest search to find the best answer for me, and my doctor was surprised. you should make an informed decision, and you doctor should be able to help you with the things that you're not sure about. if you want to email me, I'm flgalinms@yahoo.com, or IM with the same name.
