I have tried several times to use them but ... well to put it frankly they don't stay where they should! What am I doing wrong? Are there some people who just can't wear them?

Some people feel uncomfortable with them.
You might be inserting it wrong. There should be a small pamphlet inside the box that tells you how to insert it correctly.
A few tips:
1. Relax.
2. Insert at an angle, about 45 degrees, pointing it towards your lower back. If you get it going at a wrong angle, it will either hurt or won't go in.
3. You probably will not be able to insert one if your period is too light.
4. Use the correct size for your flow. If your flow is light, don't use a regular tampon in hopes of having to change it less often.
5. Even if there is hardly any blood on it, you should still change it every 4 - 5 hours.
