Large clot with period?!

Question:

Large clot with period?

I am on my period and last night I had a large blood clot. I normally have clots but this one was huge, around 4 times larger than the largest I had before. I normally bleed for 5-7 days in a 31-34 day cycle (they have never been regular in the 8 years I have been having them).

Is this something that I need to worry about. I am on citalopram which can increase the incidence the stomach ulcers, could it cause problems with my period.

I know clots are normal, I get them a lot just that this one was at least 4 times larger than my previous biggest and I had 2 large ones in this period.

Answers:

After I had the baby the doctor told me not to call unless the clot was bigger than the babies head. The only time you should worry is if you soak a large pad every 10 minutes or you have a blood clot the size of a newborns head. I think that works for the peroids. I hemorraged 4 weeks after I had my Baby and I was flowing like a river and I had 4 bloodclots the size of my palm. I got to the hospital and I still didn't need a blood transfusion. They were able to slow the bleeding down with a methergine shot. You have ALOT of blood in you. If it makes you feel better call your OBGYN. They are always more than happy to answer any of your questions. It's better to be safe than sorry :) Oh and they told me that if you sit for a while or lie down the blood will Clot in your uterus and it will seem like it's all comming out at once but it's really been collecting for a few hours.
