I have polycystic ovarian syndrom help???

i need to lose weight in order to get rid of this my gyno has put me on several diabetic medications and i am not a diabetic she has also placed me on birth control taht has made me gain more weight what is the best type of weight loss for someone with this disease im concerned because would like to have at least one child in my lifetime so i just dont think my gyno is helping me

Answers:

I also have PCOS. I was on birth control for years to regulate my periods...this is probably why your Dr. put you on the birth control.
As far as losing weight...it is extremely hard to lose weight while on the pill. If you aren't on it already, try Yasmin...it is a birth control pill and also aids in losing weight. I was able to lose weight while on Yasmin. I have found that a low carb diet gives the best results as far as a diet plan. Look up low glycemic diet plans.
The diabetic medication is to help regulate periods as well as reduce insulin. It should also force ovulation. Your sugars may also be off...this is the reason I am on Metformin.
You said that you need "to lose weight to get rid of this." Do you mean PCOS? PCOS is a disease, it will be with you for the rest of your life...there is no cure.
The best way to approach your situation is to find a Dr. who is very knowledgable about your disease, or go to a specialist. An endocrinologist is my best suggestion.
Although this is not curable there are so many ways to help you cope and manage your disease.
Hang in there, after years of searching I finally found a competent doctor. This disease can be very frustrating when you have a Dr that doesn't really know what they are dealing with. Unfortunately, in my experience a lot of them don't.
Try joining an online support group. www.soulcysters.com is a great place. Try it out.
Best of luck, always remember that you are not alone in your quest for desiring to bear children!
