Birth Control question?!

Question:

Birth Control question?

I was on the nuvaring for 3 months while I was frequently having sex with my boyfriend and i got my period each month. i couldn't get my prescription refilled to put the nuvaring in time so I have to wait until my next period is over to put a new one in. Right now I am not on any hormonal birth control, my boyfriend and I had sex only once during this time, and we used a condom (it did NOT break). For some reason i feel really worried that I'm pregnant (I have always been very paranoid about it which is why i would use the combination of hormonal birth control and condoms). Now that I'm not on BC I don't know when to expect my period because I heard it can get really irregular once you get off it it (and it was irregular in the first place).
Should i even worry about pregnancy in this case? i heard that you still have some BC in your system even after you stop it, which is why it takes some people some time to get pregnant after they discontinue taking their birth control.

Answers:

First, take a deep breath. Ok good, now relax. I understand how nervous you may be. But it's normal. If the condom didn't break, and you have *just* gotten off nuva ring you are probably, most likely fine. The fact of the matter is, nuva ring may not be the best thing for you if you are constantly getting your period. Instead of it being an effective bc, it seems it's being more of a 'period regulator'. consult your gyno about different types of bc that will enable you to have a regulated period, but that isn't every month. so just relax, take a pregnancy test, and if that comes up negative and you're still worried, go to a clinic and they can give you a test. Do not worry! You'll be fine, you're a strong, independent woman who has choices, and a sense of well being.
Good Luck :]
