Can extensive exercise make your period late?!

Question:

Can extensive exercise make your period late?

I have started training for a marathon and have been running A LOT. Can so much exercise make my period late?

Answers:

It's not at all uncommon for female athletes to lose their period when body fat levels drop significantly. This is called amenorrhea and is almost always experienced at some point by female long-distance runners. I didn't have a period for 7 months in my senior year of high school between running track and cross country and entering every 10k I could. Don't worry about it - enjoy it!!
