Which Abortion method is safer?!

Question:

Which Abortion method is safer?

I've researched on the 2 types of abortion. All the sources that I found state that the risks are equal for both methods. However, for the medical abortion, the risks mainly involve an incomplete abortion. I was wondering if given that the abortion is successful, would the long term risks for the medical abortion be lower because it is non-invasive?

Answers:

As far as serious complications the risks are equal. Medical abortions are 97% effective and surgical abortions are 99% effective so as you stated in your question the risk of the pregnancy continuing with a medical abortion is slightly higher. Medical abortions can only be done early in the pregnancy (you can't be over 8 weeks I believe). The side effects of medical abortions tend to be slightly worse (not the serious complications) - the bleeding tends to be heavier and the cramping tends to be slightly worse.

Aside from that though (the side effects and the slightly reduced effectiveness) most women who have had both have preferred the medical abortion simply because it is less invasive and seems more natural inducing a miscarriage as opposed to having the contents of your uterus vacuumed out. So it really doesn't come down to risks (which are quite minimal, the risks involved with carrying a child to term are actually greater), it comes down to personal preferences.
