My grandpa was in charge of giving out loans for small businesses (before he retired). Whatever you do, make sure your potential employers know if your 'business' is or is not recognized by the government. If you are recognized as a small business by the government, you will have to pay taxes from it. Although you can get some tax write-offs. My mom started her own business in 1999 and she is STILL just establishing herself. It takes a lot of time and dedication to start up a business.

If you are a younger teen just looking for some extra cash, I wouldn't go much farther than making some business cards and flyers. Also, I recommend accepting cash or check only. With waitresses, for example, they are supposed to claim the tips they get on their taxes. My cousin (a waitress) fibs a bit and only claims about half. So if you are making a LOT of money from this, you may want to be careful. If word gets around town that you have a business and enough people hear, it could grow significantly and you may be flagged somehow...who knows.

I think it would help to talk to someone you know who is in business or try to find a website on the Internet about how to start a small business that is or is not recognized by the government.

I am not 100% sure about all of this. That's why it would really help to talk to a professional. But my info is from my own experiences.

GOOD LUCK!! : )

P.S...I attached some sites for a reference. If you are a teen, the first site is best. If not, the second site is helpful. The rest are so so!
