It's not a good idea to insert a tampon without the applicator. The biggest reason is because once it's out the applicator it tends to expand and it will hurt trying to put it in without the applicator. The applicator is there to make it go inside of you pain free and to fit inside you comfortably until it expands to your own unique shape inside of you. That's why the applicator is so important. It also serves it's purpose because it would be very messy to insert it inside of you without having the handle end of the applicator. If you don't have to, don't insert the tampon without the applicator. The easiest thing to do is just use a brand new one.
