Mom = no tampons.?!

Question:

Mom = no tampons.?

I was invited by my friend to go to the beach. (I already said yes) A week later i realized that its the same same week as my period. So I asked my mom if I could use tampons. Her excuse was "Your period stops when you go in the water." But that doesn't happen to me. I explained that to her. She replied with "Then use a pad." Not only is she my mom, but a complete idiot. She even used tampons at my age! Of course I could use a pad, but pads not only absorb blood, but the water as well! I can't do that. Are there any reference that I could use to help my mom better understand that i need tampons? I'm 15, i've had my period for about a year or two. I do know the risks, and what type to buy. My mom was so stubborn that I had to quit ballet because it was so hard to use pads. And yes, I do know how to use tampons.

First off its not like I can drive to the store, i'm only 15. And I'm planning on using my friend's when we get there. All I really asked for was if someone had some advice that I could use to knock some sense into her. I didn't actually 'have' to quit ballet, but everyone knows that leotards and pads aren't really the best of friends.

Answers:

have you asked her why she fears you using them?

and no, your flow doesn't stop when you're in the water - you are correct.

i suggest talking to your mum. personally, i support you using tampons because they are just so much easier and cleaner, but perhaps she has a fear of some type that we're both not aware of.

perhaps do some research on them, print em out and show your mum that you're "old enough" to know what you are doing and hopefully she will respect that. i'm not sure what to stay because i'm not sure what is going on in her head.

have you talked to your dad or even a trusted aunt about this? maybe they can talk to your mum for you?
