everything i read and hear says start taking alesse on the first 5th or first Sunday after your period begins,but do you have to be on your period to start taking it?

You can start anytime you want but then you will have 2 periods in one month. You should start birth control the first Sunday after you start your period. Your doc should have told you all of this. Since your doc did such a lousy job of telling you about the med he was prescribing be very careful to ask lots of questions anytime you go back to his office as he should be explaining how to use everything he prescribes for you and he isn't. That is dangerous.
