ok im 16 and when i have my period i have HORRIBLE cramps. i mean i have left school at least 8 or 9 times because of cramps. i take the regular pain relievers but they never seem to work and i was wondering about the pill? one of my friends takes them for her cramps and say that they work but she is 18. am i to young to get on the pill and do they have any negative effects? i just want something to work! i feel like i spend a week of my life every month in a ball crying and i just want it to get better!

Answers:

You're not too young technically, but you will need to be mature enough to get a full gynecological exam and speak to a doctor about your issues. You also have to be very responsible and take the pill EVERY day at the SAME time or the hormones that are supposed to be regulating your cycle (and helping with the cramps) won't work.

There are certainly side effects, but they vary from pill to pill. Speak to a gynecologist about your options.
