I have heard that it does, but something that I have found better this past week with my cold is Hydrogen Perioxide.
Lay on your side, and pour a little bit in your ear. Lay with it fizzling for about 5 to 10 min. Then drain it. And do the other side. It cleared out my head and shortened my cold. The person i heard this from said that this is best to do as soon as you feel the cold coming on.
You need to bring your immunity up. Use astragulis and zinc with your tea for maximum effects.
