Is it okay to take valerian capsules while I am on 50mg Sertraline?!
Question: I am currently taking 50mg Sertraline for social phobia. I am interesting in trying Valerian capsules so I can get some rest? When I first began Sertraline on the starter 25 mg package I had the rest I needed and felt great. It has since been about a month and I no longer enjoy the rest I was getting with this medication. Is it okay to use Valerian in conjunction with Sertraline. I will not abuse the Valerian I just want to use it about 1 a week to get a break from my anxiety..... What do you think. I am going to call the pharmacist tomorrow, but I want to know now!

there is no significant interaction according to the med check program on epocrates on my PalmPilot.
As always, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking an herbal product when you are on Rx drugs.

Yes, that's a safe mix, but it may be the Sertraline causing insomnia, it's a known side-effect. So it might be worthwhile telling your doctor about the problem.
